These are compatible with the main brands that make these, and this comes with a LOT of pieces. My 5y.o. is having a blast.
The little chibi characters are a nice touch, I wouldn't have thought they would be much use but the kiddo enjoys them.
Our kiddos already have a lot of these magnetic buildings pieces, but they didn't have the ones with the people, vehicles, and roads! So far they're really enjoying building and connecting while running roads through their creations. The included kit allows you to build a lot and make some small villages to drive and navigate through. The quality of the pieces is good and the magnets within are strong and holds firm enough to keep things together.
I got this set for my first grader because he loves building with magnetic tiles. We have a number of these sets in various different colors from different brands. They are all a standard size and cross compatible. This set is nice because it includes a number of the road tiles, and he doesn't have very many of them. There’s not much else unique in terms of quality or magnetic latching ability that sets this set apart from other comparable sets. I’d just buy whichever is cheapest. Unless you’re looking for road/street pieces. This set comes with a lot of those tiles.I also have younger children and what's really nice about these magnetic tiles is they are mostly not an issue if you have small children crawling around because there's no small pieces. The only thing you have to watch out for is unique/odd shaped pieces that split in half because sometimes the magnets come out. I don't see any pieces here that would fall under that category.
Like many reviewers, we were stumped about how to get the battery inside the cars! Finally figured it out, so wanted to share a photo of where the battery goes. Just remove one screw near the rear wheel on the left side of each car, and you’ll be able to pull up the piece that covers the battery compartment. Other than the initial battery confusion, this is a fantastic toy!

The set is very colorful, and the magnets are impressively strong, ensuring that you can create any shape you desire. It also comes with a convenient bag for storing all the pieces, keeping everything organized.
